Tabcorp is considering plans to placate frustrated punters in the wake of the nationwide betting network meltdown which cost an estimated $120 million in wagering turnover over the weekend.
Late on Sunday the TAB system was again offline however this time it appeared to be an organised shut down although there was nothing officially released from the TAB at the time explaining to customers why they could not log on.
A source at the TAB said the system had been shut down late in the day to allow for a complete restart on Monday.
The computer crash on Saturday is being blamed on a “smoke and likely fire incident” at a data centre that also impacted the TAB’s sophisticated back-up systems.

A thorough investigation continues as TAB attempts to identify the exact cause of the problem.
The TAB said there was no evidence its network had been hacked but cyber security would be “urgently reviewed’’ as part of its investigation.
TAB punters were left furious when unable to place any bets or access their betting accounts through TAB agencies, or via telephone and online outlets.
The TAB system crashed just after 11am on Saturday and remained down until 3pm on Sunday when finally there was a restoration of the betting network nationwide.
In the wake of the PR disaster, it is expected TAB will look after its customers by providing various betting incentives including bonus bets and odds boosts for those inconvenienced by the betting crash.
Punters were met with an error message as the TAB website and wagering crashed.
The Daily Telegraph understands the computer failure means TAB has lost nearly $120 million in betting turnover.
TAB wagering turnover is the financial lifeblood of the racing industry and the systems crash has cost the racing industry around $10 million in betting revenue.
It has also highlighted how interdependent wagering operators and the racing industry is of the TAB betting network.
Corporate bookmakers noted an upturn in new account holders over the weekend as TAB punters looked for ways to bet on the Golden Gift meeting at Rosehill and the Group 1 Stakes Day program at Flemington on Saturday.
But every corporate bookmaker has TAB-based betting products these days and there was a knock-on effect from the TAB computer crash with delays in paying winning bets as dividends are linked back to TAB.

Race meetings were also impacted and in some cases, abandoned, during the chaos on Saturday.
In Adelaide, the decision was made to cancel Saturday’s Morphettville meeting after race two and reschedule it for Monday.
Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel delayed the Rosehill opener for 35 minutes on Saturday but said it was always the stewards intention to proceed with the Golden Gift meeting.
Tabcorp chief executive David Attenborough apologised to punters.
